Getting a better summary than the default

The automatic summary is generic by design. For something more useful, ask in chat with a specific shape in mind:

Summarizing several PDFs at once

Upload multiple PDFs and ask for a synthesis across all of them rather than one at a time: "Summarize the common themes across these five reports, and note where they disagree." This is where NotebookLM genuinely outperforms reading each PDF separately, since it holds all of them in context simultaneously and can point out contradictions a person skimming five documents in sequence would likely miss.

When a PDF summary comes back wrong or empty
